AMERICAN VISA


Synopsis:

Mario, a provincial schoolteacher, wants to emigrate to the US to begin a new life with his son who lives in Miami. When his visa application is turned down, he plans a robbery to pay for a visa in the black market. But fate has an unexpected turn when Mario meets Blanca, a nightclub dancer, who is looking for a different kind of dream: the Bolivian dream.



DIRECTOR’S CV:

Juan Carlos Valdivia was born in La Paz, Bolivia. He studied at Columbia College in Chicago. In 1993, he won a 100, 000 Us dollars from the New Latin American Cinema Foundation for his screenplay Jonah and the Pink Whale, which he directed in 1994 in co-production with Mexico. The film was a huge success in Bolivia and was released in several countries. It won Best Feature Film in Cartagena. He also directed the Mexican feature film The Last Gospel – 2007.
