Born in Cairo in 1958, Marianne Khoury, an AUC and Oxford graduate, has been a managing partner in Misr International Films (Youssef Chahine & Co.) as well as an executive producer on a large number of co-productions directed by iconic director, Youssef Chahine namely, "Wada'an Bonaparte (Adieu Bonaparte)", "Al-Youm Al-Sades (The Sixth Day)", "Iskenderia Kaman wa Kaman (Alexandria Again and Forever)", "Al-Akhar (The Other)", "Skoot…Hansawar (Silence… We’re Rolling)", "Iskenderia…New York (Alexandria… New York)", and "Heya Fawda (Chaos)". She has also collaborated with other directors, such as Yousri Nasrallah, Asma El Bakri or Radwan El Kashef to name a few. Her first steps into directing were taken for "The Times of Laura" in 1999, following with her first documentary "Women Who Loved Cinema" in 2002.
This film is part of "Women…Pioneers" (2000-2004), a series of documentary films about pioneer women in the Arab world, directed by several filmmakers and produced by Marianne Khoury. The films of the series include: "The Legend of Rose Al-Youssef" by Mohamed Kamel El-Kalioubi, "Women Who Loved Cinema (Parts I & II)" by Marianne Khoury, "Woman is Courage" by Amine Rachedi, "Rai Story" by Madeleine Verschaffelt & Ahmed Rachedi, "Lady of the Palace" by Samir Habchi, "When a Woman Sings" by Mustapha Hasnaoui, "Women Beyond Borders" by Jean Chamoun, "Shikhates Blues" by Ali Essafi, "Women’s Chitchat" by Hala Galal, "Fama… A Heroine Without Glory" by Dalila Ennadre, and "Seekers of Oblivion" by Raja Amari. "Women…Pioneers" was produced in cooperation with a program of the European commission, Euromed Audiovisual I.
She created and organized the first edition of the Panorama of the European Film in Cairo (2004) and was a jury member in several international festivals, namely Milan, Fribourg, Booker’s Prize, CMCA, Rotterdam, Abu Dhabi, The Love Film Festival in Mons as well as a member of the Commission’s Funds of French-speaking countries for audiovisual projects produced in the Southern regions of Middle East and African countries (2006-2008) and the planning committee of Euromed Audiovisual sponsored by the European Commission in 2007-2008.
