Sandra Nasha’at graduated from the Higher Cinema Institute in 1993, and earned a
Bachelor of Arts from the Faculty of Literature (French Section), Cairo University.
She won several awards for her graduation project” Akher Sheta” (The Last Winter).
That very same year she directed a film called "Moviola" aka"The Editing Table "
as a tribute for Kamal Aboulela .
In 1995, she got a scholarship from the American Cultural Centre, for a filmmaking
workshop which allowed her to travel across different states (Ohio, N.Y,New Orleans,
Washington) to acquire different filming techniques. She also got another scholarship,
in the same year from the French Cultural Centre (Le Semis) and traveled to France
for another 2 months for a filmmaking workshop.
Her debut feature film, as a director, was “Mabrouk We Bolbol” starring Yehia El
Fakharany & Dala Abdel Aziz, and this film claimed several awards.
She then shifted temporarily to directing music videos for several Egyptian pop
stars and eventually went back to pursue her true passion for cinema and directed
her second film “Leh Khaletny Ahabak”(Why Did You Make Me Fall in Love With You?)
in 2001.
Other films followed in 2002 with “Haramyia Fe KG 2” for which she was awarded several
prizes, 2003 “Haramyia Fe Thailand”,”Malaky Eskenderia (Private –Alexandria)in 2005
which was a huge box office success and earned her several accolades. In 2006, she
directed “El Rahina” (The Hostage) starring Ahmed Ezz & Yasmine Abdel Aziz.
Sandra Nasha’at is a young and promising Egyptian director with a particular vision
and with plenty yet to offer for Egyptian Cinema.
