Moufida Tlatli was born in 1947 in Tunisia. She studied screenwriting, editing and
production management at the IDHEC in Paris. She has edited the following films:
Alloucache’s Omar Gatlatou, Michel Khleifi’s La Mémoire Fertile, Ferida Belyazid’s
Une Porte sur le Ciel and Ben Ammar’s Aziza, among many others. In 1993, she directed
Les Silences du Palais (Silences of the Palace), which has won a staggering amount
of international prizes in the years following its release, including: Best Film
Award in Chicago, Istanbul and Johannesburg, Best Female role in Syria, Valencia
and Namur as well as the Grand Prix at the London Film Festival. It also received
a Golden Camera and Directors’ Fortnight mention at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival.
