Ildiko Enyedi was born in Budapest, Hungary. She studied Economics as wells as Cinema
and Dramatic Arts both in Budapest and in Montpellier, France. She started her career
at the Béla Balazs Studio – the only independent film studio before 1989 in Eastern
Europe – and in the Studio of Young Artists. She was part of the art group Indigo
(Interdisciplinary Thinking) in which she participated with performances, installations
and videos. She works in international co-productions in Paris, Berlin, Hamburg
and Budapest. Ms. Enyedi also teaches at the University of Film and Theatrical Arts
in Budapest. Her film My 20th Century received the Golden Camera for Best First
Film at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival and was selected among the 10 Best Films of
the Year by the New York Times. Her film Magic Hunter (1994) received the Best East
European Film Script Award at the Sundance Institute, USA and was in competition
at the 1995 Venice Film Festival. Tamas and Juli, was part of the official selection
in the 1997 Venice Film Festival and received the Grand Prix at the Belfort Festival.
Ms. Enyedi is the president of the Director’s Guild of Hungary and a member of the
European Film Academy
